We have found that although, the policy is in place to let students and their parents or guardians opt-out of having their contact information forwarded to the military, many schools do not follow through. We are finding that some schools still automatically enroll students in JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps). And most people are unaware that in some states young men are automatically enrolled in the Selective Service database when they apply for a driver’s license.

For the 2025 school year our Back to School Packet is focusing on student privacy issues; issues that are of importance to students, parents and the community. We urge you to review the information contained in the packet and join us in stopping the military intrusion into our schools. Counter-recruitment: Inside Out

Counter-recruitment Inside Out, is a compilation of articles authored during the last 12 years by activists and researchers, offering an analysis of counter-recruitment practices. It also seeks strategies for improving its effectiveness in persuading the youth to take a harder look at military enlistment, and to develop a more informed view of the motivations behind their government's wars. With the advent of militarized gaming and the increase of movie and television militainment influencing young minds and legitimizing state violence, counter-recruiters need to develop more nuanced methods of directing young people towards alternatives to militarization.

We have just recently decided to take up the CR cause and have been developing schemes to demand the removal of the ROTC from our college campus (Ole Miss). We are a very active group of students who originally joined together for the Ron Paul campaign. We have worked with the Iraq Veterans Against the War for two rallys, one for the first Presidential Debate (which was on our campus) and a Peace Rally this past November.

Additional Info: Additional Information : We are a very small group, with no web site, but with threeor four people we have been counter-recruiting in 8 high schools for at least fouryears in the southern part of the state. We need new information, especially on theso-called "new" GI Bill. We also need fresh ideas, about alternatives mostly, since,in poor communities these are hard to find. I work with a Vietnam vet, Gary Cheney,who is our star c-r. Together we have gone to Philadelphia, twice, I think, forweekends with the AFSC. We have given trainings around Vermont.
