A webinar series on how to address the challenge of countering military recruitment in schools during the pandemic.

We are a group of activists representing various organizations that are part of NNOMY (National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth). We have been meeting to address the challenge of doing counter recruitment work during a pandemic. Based on our discussions we decided to offer a series of workshops to increase our outreach.

The feedback we received seemed to indicate that Zoom and Google were used the most in the classroom. This workshop will cover Zoom and Google. It will NOT cover the basics of how to use Google and Zoom. That information is available elsewhere (YouTube, Google, etc). Instead we structured the workshop around specific questions people submitted. If you did not forward a question you can ask your question during the workshop.

The 3rd series of workshops will focus on social media. The first session will take place Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 12 Noon Pacific (2 PM Central, 3 PM Eastern). This will focus on how the military is using social media to recruit and what platforms are popular among our target demographic. At least one additional session will take place at a future date which will be a “class project”; building a social media campaign on a particular topic.

There will be several workshops on social media. The first one, February 6, will look at how the military is using social media to recruit young people, social media best practices, analytics of some C-R groups, a brief overview of several of the more popular platforms used by our demographic (young folks high school and college age)

The Content Creation Workshop will present a presentation on the CANVA online graphic production application and how easy it can be used to create informational graphics and how we can apply those results to promoting counter-recruitment and youth demilitarization messages on our social media channels. We will also embark on a simple class project to choose a series of pre-made graphics to organize and schedule a Facebook campaign on a Counter-recruitment theme together with as many participants that choose to participate.
