How will Project 2025 influence the remilitarization of American Youth?

12/21/2024 / NNOMY - Project 2025 is a comprehensive policy agenda proposed by a coalition of conservative organizations. It aims to reshape federal government policies across multiple sectors, including education, healthcare, and civil rights. One of the concerns raised by critics is that Project 2025 could lead to the remilitarization of American youth by promoting policies that increase military recruitment and influence in schools.

Project 2025 eliminates the U.S. Department of Education, including Title I, which provides funds to ensure schools serving low-income students have additional resources to deliver a high-quality education beyond that which can be supported by local property tax revenue.

The US Military and the Myth That Humanity Is Predisposed to Violence

September 13, 2015 / Maria Santelli / Truthout - We have this tragic misperception that humanity is predisposed to violence.

The truth is that humanity is predisposed to peace. The default position for humanity is that of conscientious objector to war and violence.

In our work at the Center on Conscience & War, this is proven to us daily, through our individual conscientious objectors. Science has proven it, too. This tendency for cooperation over competition is evident in daily life: on an average day, most people will witness countless acts of cooperation, kindness, and humanity towards one another, and not one act of violence or competition. And most of it is so commonplace, we barely even notice it. We take our nonviolence for granted.

Pacifist Organizations that Promoted Counter-recruitment

10/08/2024 / NNOMY.ORG - Internationally, pacifist groups have fostered activism through education or direct action against war and advocated for peace. Some of these groups have participated actively or tangentially in counter-recruitment activism with youth in their communities either inside religious, community,  or school settings.

Below is a survey of pacifist groups that were asked in they had any involvement with counter-recruitment activism in their outreach.

Though the search is “first world and Western-Centric,” there are few exceptions and this list in not conclusive of all the type of counter-recruitment activism that has gone on in this world.

The information below was sourced utilizing MSN Copilot AI asking “What have been the organizations name counter-recruitment efforts? The listings below indicate whether the organization was  “Not directly” or “Actively involved”  in counter-recruitment activism.

The Pentagon Goes to School

September 30, 2024 / William Hartung / Tom Dispatch - The divestment campaigns launched last spring by students protesting Israel’s mass slaughter in Gaza brought the issue of the militarization of American higher education back into the spotlight.

Of course, financial ties between the Pentagon and American universities are nothing new. As Stuart Leslie has pointed out in his seminal book on the topic, The Cold War and American Science, “In the decade following World War II, the Department of Defense (DOD) became the biggest patron of American science.” Admittedly, as civilian institutions like the National Institutes of Health grew larger, the Pentagon’s share of federal research and development did decline, but it still remained a source of billions of dollars in funding for university research.

KPFK's Rebel Alliance News: Military contractors Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon were not on hand Thursday at the career fair at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Perhaps they got the message, war profiteers are not welcome on campus. But four other lower-profile weapons contractors did show up, and KPFK's Marcy Winograd reports on the protests outside the UCSB career fair.

As students, many of them dressed professionally. Suits, ties, dresses, heels, waited in line to enter the UCSB career fair. Protesters handed them a flyer. UCSB career fair survival guide. We know you want a killer job, but do you want a job that kills?

"Connie Stay Home"

"Connie Stay Home" Filmed by the Peoples Union Filmmakers, 1971. A powerful documentary of the anti-Vietnam War campaign in San Diego that got national attention and mobilized thousands of people to vote against sending the USS Constellation aircraft carrier back to continue bombing Vietnam. (A postscript to the film: When it sailed, nine sailors refused to go with it and were court-martialed.) Also: See Stanford University Page on this action

"A war I Opposed And Despised With A Depth Or Feeling I Had Reserved Solely For Racism In America Before Vietnam."
Bill Clinton (1969)

"A striking characteristic of the Clinton era has been an increased American propensity to employ military power as an adjunct of foreign policy."

Andrew J. Bacevich (2000)
