A Vietnam vet on a journey to help those battling PTSD made a stop at Binghamton High School today.

Frank Romeo spoke with juniors about his experiences serving during the Vietnam War and his lifelong battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Beginning on March 1st, the day of his 70th birthday, Romeo began a 750 mile three month walk across New York State.

The US Army Vet is visiting 25 homeless shelters to talk with homeless veterans about the disorder.

Romeo has been working with people with PTSD for 30 years and says he figured walking across the state would be a great way to bring attention to the issue.

He says the stigma around mental illness is hurting veterans.

“If they get anything from meeting me it’d if they’re in an uncomfortable situation or traumatized in anyway they should go for help. They should talk to someone. Most people think that no one will understand and they have to understand that they’re not that special, other people feel the same way. I mean I felt that way for 30 years,” he said.
