Help NNOMY Protect Student Privacy

Fri, 03/30/2012 - 3:50pm by nnomyadmin

Be a NNOMY Facebook Privacy Rights ProtectorJoin NNOMY's Campaign to ask our state superintendent's of education to follow the Family Education Rights Privacy Act for public schools.

Send messages to your Facebook Friends to help get petitions signed in their states asking for action to protect student privacy of minors.  The issues to inform your networks about are:

  • To alert parents and students that the ASVAB test is given by the department of defense to collect data for military recruiters.

  • That many schools are not following federal guidelines to protect the privacy rights of minors.

  • To find out if your school is misrepresenting ASVAB testing to you and your children saying it is a requirement of law.

  • Ask that school districts adopt Option 8 in relation to ASVAB reporting which requires the signed consent of students or parents before personal information can be released to the military.

If you can give a minimum of one hour a week, please contact The National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth (NNOMY) by filling out the Form on the right side of this page and let us know about your interest to help. If you would like to apply your volunteer work to school credit, talk with your teacher first and give her the address of the NNOMY web page at www.nnomy.org to make sure they will agree to this activity for you and how it fits into your study plan. If you would like to volunteer as a group, this is also acceptable. Let's talk soon.

Together we can protect our constitutional rights as citizens. Don't depend on politicians to protect your rights! Contact NNOMY Now.

What Every Young Woman Should Know About the Military

What Every Young Woman Should Know About the Military

A Brochure for Young Women Thinking About Joining the Military | 2022

"When I joined, I knew that women in the military faced an uphill battle, but I didn't fully understand how serious the issues were and how reluctant leadership is to doing anything about it.

The truth is that there's a culture of harassment and assault that is incredibly harmful to all troops, but especially to gender minorities."
