It's all tied together ?? the military?industrial complex is tied to control of schools, the youth who attend, and their privacy. The privacy of youth is taken from them in all kinds of ways in schools including the extensive collection of "recommended" student data from the National Center for Education Statistics, surveys of students attitudes and experiences across personally sensitive areas, and the disaggregation of student data to satisfy No Child Left Behind requirements. Is it any wonder that when people become so desensitized to the loss of privacy, they then forego an opt?out, sit for an ASVAB test, use their data?collecting swipe cards at the Army Experience Center, or put their contact data into the military recruiter's pizza raffle jar? This workshop will start to re?sensitize us all to the protection of youth privacy.
