Groups Associated to NNOMY Issue Calls for a Ceasefire in Gaza

Call for a cease-fire and humanitarian access for Gaza now!

Gaza has been under attack since Oct. 7. Since then, more than 18,787 Palestinians have been killed, over 40% of them children. Another 10,000 are estimated to be buried under the rubble. Over 1.9 million people have been displaced from their homes, and over 60% of homes in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed. Read More

PJCNC Statement on Israel Gaza war

I learned of the October 7, 2023 atrocities committed by Hamas with much sadness, and feel great empathy for the families that lost loved ones, as a Jew who has worked on a Kibbutz and a humanThe Peace and Justice Center believes that violence creates a spiral that destroys our world and brings suffering to all eventually.

Also as a Jew, I feel great responsibility to tell the rest of the story.  I grew up in a neighborhood of Holocaust survivors and vowed to never remain silent in the midst of a genocide.  I don’t approve of the 75 years of ethnic cleansing and apartheid that has brought us to this sad day, nor do I approve of the vengeful acts against helpless civilians, half of whom are children, in Gaza that are ongoing: no water, no food, no electricity, bombardment of schools, hospitals and houses of worship, and no medical facilities to take injured children to. Statement of Solidarity: Protecting Innocent Lives in the Israeli-Hamas Conflict

In these turbulent times, the Resource Center for Nonviolence (RCNV) stands in unwavering solidarity with the innocent lives profoundly impacted by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families who have experienced unimaginable loss and suffering, irrespective of their background or affiliation.

At the heart of our commitment lies the unwavering dedication to protecting innocent lives and upholding the fundamental principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As Dr. King profoundly asserted, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” This wisdom remains the guiding light of our actions and mission. Read More

Veterans For Peace Statement on Gaza

On October 12, Veterans For Peace issued this statement about the conflict between Hamas and Israel, in which we condemned the horrific violence on both sides, particularly the killing of civilians. We added our voice to the many calls for a ceasefire and negotiations toward a political solution because there is no military one.

Since then, conditions have worsened – terribly. If a ceasefire isn’t declared, the killing and wounding in Gaza will increase dramatically, given announced plans to intensify bombing and conduct what is likely to be a months-long ground invasion.

Marjorie Cohn, VFP Advisory Board member and former president of the National Lawyers Guild, joined many others in defining what’s happening in Gaza as “genocide,” and the U.S. role as  “complicity in genocide.”

We take those terms very seriously.

On October 20, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that 4,127 people, including 1,661 children have been killed and 13,162 people have been injured. Since then, 400 people were killed in 24 hours on October 22.  Read More

World Can’t Wait Statement on Gaza

The violence of Israel’s response to the Hamas attack on October 7 is leading to the genocide of all Palestinians in Gaza and threatening those in the West Bank and Jerusalem.  The Israeli government is being enabled by the backing of the U.S. government through huge amounts of military aid and the use of its veto power at the United Nations. The bombing and starvation of Gaza must stop immediately. We call for a permanent ceasefire. Never again for anyone!

WRI executive statement on the escalation of violence in Israel-Palestine, October 2023

As full scale war again returns to Israel-Palestine, we turn to the WRI founding statement, that “War is a crime against humanity. I am therefore determined not to support any kind of war, and to strive for the removal of all causes of war.”

War is sometimes fought with bombs and bullets. Sometimes it is fought by restricting access to the resources that allow people to meet their basic needs, and for humanity to flourish. As antimilitarists, we can and will always reject and condemn both the immediate, deliberate and organised violence that grabs headlines and shocks the world, and simultaneously recognise that the violence that has occurred in Israel-Palestine since Saturday 7th October is rooted in a decades long, asymmetrical, grinding conflict.

We also want to recognise that, though many of us will have our attention drawn to the shocking and immediate violence, we often fail to act or engage during the times of “normal”, sustained but no less damaging acts of violence and oppression. This is true for Israel-Palestine, but also in Nagorno-Karabakh, Rojava, West Papua, and so many other places. Read More

NNOMY also supports those draft resisters in Israel who refuse to take part in the violence against the Palestinian inhabitants inside the Palestinian zones of Israel. Here is information reflecting those objections from Resisters.info:

Refusal to Serve in the IDF

Some distinguish between refusal to serve in the military because of a pacifist worldview that rejects any manifestation of violence and encompasses a refusal to submit to compulsory military service in any form, and partial refusal to serve, such as the Courage to Refuse group who "do their reserve duty wherever and whenever they are summoned, but refuse to serve in the occupied territories."[4] The diverse range of opinions regarding the refusal to serve is the reason why there is no single umbrella organization that encompasses all groups of refusers. While most instances of refusal to serve have historically been found among left-leaning Israelis, there is a rapidly expanding willingness among right-wing soldiers to refuse orders to evict Jews from settlements in the West Bank (and formerly in the Gaza Strip) Read More
