Because of the value of institutional testing to our recruiting efforts, commanding officers of recruiting stations have a responsibility to introduce and "sell" non-participating schools on the idea of using the ASVAB… However, the Secretary of Defense has directed that all publicity materials on institutional testing published by the Armed Forces, including recruiting field activities, must contain the following statement,“The ASVAB is used by the Armed Forces for recruiting purposes and by school counselors for vocational guidance counseling."
